Allan Carrano correctly points out that such lens mismatch exists and can
be detected with dimensionally accurate mounts.

How common? Depends on your tolerances and definition of "mismatch". In
many cases it is barely detectable and causes no harm. Solution? This was
discussed some time ago... I believe there are ways of respacing the lens'
elements to change the focal length of one lens. Contact Ron Zakowski and
ask him if he will do it for Realists.
