There's more to storage than eternal bits -- like disc drives, 
operating systems, file formats, display conventions, etc., 
etc., etc. For the present we must regard all digital storage 
media as effectively "ephemeral." At present we can measure 
the lifespan of most digital recordings in months, not years.

Sigh, if I could only get to that masterpiece I wrote on my
TRS-80 Model III...
