Viewmaster good news - From John Bradley

I am forwarding the following message from John Bradley
that was stuck in photo-3d's listeserve.

-------

I visited my local Toys-R-Us today.
For reasons of safety I left all 3
of our children at home.
I was amazed to find one of the
biggest and best ViewMaster
store displays I can ever remember
seeing. I don't know what it has been
like elswhere, but in England VM
has been consigned to a small
corner of a back shelf in most shops,
and the range of material on show has
been very limited. Today's display
was big , attractive and had an
extensive range of reels on show too.
After complaining for years about the
limited , mostly cartoon , selection
available , I was confronted with "live
action" coverage of 4 current movies,
as well as the more common stuff for
little kids. I know some of the shots
are "computer generated 3D" , but
overall I was quite impressed.
I also bought the new talking VM, and
again was full of admiration for a company
investing in a new design , with all
the start up costs that involves. Lets
hope the new owners maintain an
interest. Like any good subscriber
to Photo3D I can add a list of all the
shortcomings of this new stereo product-
(poor lighting; no clue to start and finish
positions on the filmstrip; awkward to
insert batteries) , but to do so would be
churlish. This is a fine new stereo toy,
and I hope they make a success of it.
One last question though- how much do
VM viewers cost in USA? Prices here are
currently 6.99 pounds (about $11.50)
for the standard simple red viewer ,
and 14.99pounds(about$25) for the
new talking viewer. How does that
compare??
Finally can I note my disappointment
at the departure of our correspondent
Cliff Howard. I've never seen such a
big word search before. So far the only
words I could find in his puzzles were
"inconsiderate" and "timewaster".
