When I was first starting out, I became SO excited when I discovered the
witness mark. "At last!", I thought. "No more having to keep track of
left and right chips as I cut-- I can sort them all afterwards!"
Imagine my dismay upon discovering that oftentimes, the witness mark falls
EXACTLY on a perforation, rendering it all-but-invisible. Less often,
but still useless, is when it falls in shadow and can't be seen...
(And this of course assumes a later-model Realist that HAS the witness
mark, not all do [my early Ilex Realist doesn't].)
