Making CD-ROMs CD-ROMs

I'm already making a twin CD set based on my animal page.

It was difficult to get it all happening because as always,
one upgrade is never enough. :P

First of all I bought a CD-Writer T [T-Yud which claimed to
allow multi-session cds to be written, this was a handy feature
since my hard drive was only 880megs [I only had 20megs spare].

I was soon to discover that multi-session simply does not work.

I ruined about 10 CDs.

I would write the first session, then write the next.
the result would either be a CD with the last session
readable [I lost a lot of stuff this way :P]
or a totally unusable CD.

Different friends warned me that their multisessions did
not work either and I'd be better off doing it all in one go.

So I bought a 3.1GB HD, this solved the problem and I was
now creating cds that worked very well indeed. :)

One of the problems was sorting image files, I discovered that
the easiest way by far to do this is with "Thumbsplus" [Win95]
which makes a draw full of thumbprints which you can click on
to view the image, or drag the thumbprint to the directory located
on the left side of the window.

Thumbsplus was excellent for fixing any mistakes as I could easily
find pictures that didn't belong in some directories and move them
to where they did belong. the whole process was made much faster.

Be aware also that it takes up to 90 minutes to produce one full CD.
and _anything_ can ruin it... I clicked on a different window to
highlight it, that ruined a cd.

you must kill all screensavers, all virus killers and anything that
may distract the machine in any small way.

obviously using the pc is a no-no.

a second pc would be excellent if you need to do work or be online while
this is happening.

[if only PCs multitasked like Amigas]

on the upside, I'm selling my CDs for $50 Australian [about $US40]
I've sold 7 and have orders here for 4 more. :)

Take Care!

Wolfie!
