I can't say if it is "identical" because I haven't formally checked
it, but my impression has always been that it is pretty accurate.
I'm not sure whether the viewfinder image matches the full film image,
or the viewable part of the image after cropping from normal mounting,
however.  Anyone ever check this?

The viewfinder gives an average of what the right and left lenses
see horizontally, which in a few cases is not quite enough
information, but I don't think that will affect your filter
holder design.

Please keep us informed of your progress;  your project sounds
quite interesting.
