Realist rangefinder adjustment

I recently acquired a second Realist 3.5, and the rangefinder is out of
adjustment, both in terms of vertical alignment and in terms of accuracy
of the distances indicated by the rangefinder. My primary question is
whether the lens is actually focusing at the distance indicated by the
numbers or at the distance indicated by the split images coinciding or
???  Also, how easy would this be to adjust? Thanks for any advice. (My
primary camera has been cleaned and adjusted by Zak). -Linda
