"Kodak" (mis)mounting

Last night wI itnessed first-hand the "Kodak" mounting service quality
problems that Paul Talbot warned us about, not too long ago...

A club member asked for help to mount a stereo pair that did not look right
when it came back from "Kodak". He said that he tried all mounting
combinations but he still could not get it right. Later at home I realized
that these chips were from different pairs! Similar, but definitely
different. Talking about "retinal rivalry"!

I tried to contact him today asking for the other -mismounted-
pair but his wife insists that there is no other pair or he would have
suspected what went wrong. Gosh, you think the other pair was thrown
away? I hope not!

I understand that the "Kodak" mounting service switches right to left
(creating a pseudo) quite frequently. As a matter of fact, we also saw
this last night when one of those was projected for the competition! (I
think the member who entered this one does not have a viewer yet and judged
the picture from its other photographic qualities) But I do not understand
how "Kodak" can mount together chips from different pairs. I am still
wondering... Is the matching of the pairs done by eye? Isn't anybody
looking at the mounted pairs? These incidents show a total lack of a
routine which is pretty amazing and downright scary.

Warning/advice to those who use this service: Do not discard any pairs
that "do not look right". Keep them until you learn how to remount or get
help from someone who does.
