I agree. It's much easier to get people interested if they can get some
"nice" initial results without enormous effort or a steep learning curve.

Sure they do - and so did all previous generations. To make matters worse,
high school kids today don't know nearly as much Latin and phrenology
as did their predecessors of 100 years ago. :-)
