Those who cannot see or enjoy stereo

I know we have discussed this issue many times but during my
visit to Chicago I became once again aware of this problem.
The chairman of the ASM chapter could not see stereo. I realized
this right when I saw him. One eye was looking in a *completely*
different direction than the other. He said he was aware of this
problem but he was given a pilot's (airplane) license despite
this. One professor in IIT told me right away that he did not
have vision in one eye so he could not see stereo. Two more
faculty members could not see stereo.

My problem is this: Here I am, showing 100 stereoscopic slides
and explaining how important stereoscopic vision is, how it can
be utilized for science, how much it is missed when stereo is not
used (I showed plenty of comparisons of flat vs. 3D). I was
pointing to effects and features only seen with stereoscopic
vision. In my audience there are people who cannot see any
of that and are missing the entire picture.

I am wondering: DO I INSULT those people by telling them how
important stereo is? These people have lived all their lives
and have a successful carrier, WITHOUT stereoscopic vision.
How important can it be after all?

I feel very awkward about it.

And another thing. One young fellow left in the middle of the
presentation. Later he told me that he was getting a
headache. I have heard this in the past. Others have reported
similar reactions. Clearly, there are no misalignments in my
projected images. Then why are some people reporting such
reactions? (My wife says: "Sure, I get a headache too! It
must be those glasses." I suspected the glasses too but then
my wife added: "I get a headache wearing sunglasses too!"
which leaves me wondering...)

Any thoughts on these thoughts?
