Superman 3D short?

What with the current mention of Superman, I thought I'd throw out the
following - I caught a Superman "Film Noir" short on the Sci Fi Channel
awhile ago, the "Magnetic Telescope" circa 1942.

What caught my eye was a very prominent banner on the Paramount logo
shot saying that the "Stereographic process and appratus" were patented
(2054414).

I wonder was this a true 3D piece, or something else? It seems early, and
during WWII to boot (although it seemed to be in color).
