In her report on the Thomas Moran exhibit at the National Gallery of Art
and the six stereoviews on display in viewers, Brenda Nowlan wrote:

The curator, Nancy Anderson, does indeed have an appreciation of
stereoviews, a rarity in the world of fine art and art history. During
her lecture on the day in late September when the exhibit opened to the
public she emphasized the significance of the stereographs and urged
people to take the time to sit down and examine the stereoviews. She
had hoped to have sufficient space within the exhibit area to present
the stereoviews in viewers so they could be seen as intended, and I
think it worked out pretty well. Museum staff made the oak
stereoscopes, which look pretty nice but don't have the best lenses. I
think a key design element was theft-resistance, and they have so far
succeeded. That and the guard standing nearby!
The Thomas Moran exhibit will travel to the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa
OK where it will be on display from Feb. 8 to May 10, and then to the
Seattle Art Museum from June 19 (new date) to August 30. At the
present time it is expected that the stereoviews will be seen at both
venues.
The National Gallery is developing a virtual version of their Moran
exhibit, but the last time I checked it wasn't available at their web
site. I assume the stereoviews will be shown here too since I recently
signed a release for the view from my collection in the exhibit. This
online version is expected to run through next August, just like the
physical exhibit.
