Don't they allow the viewers to touch *near* their eyes? And they also touch
the viewer with their hands. In either case, if they should happen to rub
their eyes shortly after viewing, there's a possibility of infection.

(I would not presume to judge whether that is a significant avenue to 
infection, but if it is, that would be the mechanism.)
