It would be interesting to find out whether Disney, IMAX, etc. make an
effort to sterilize their glasses. (UV light?)
I don't know about bacteria, etc., but many viruses are reported to pretty
much become non-viable after just a few hours outside of a living body in
ordinary indoor conditions. So if people don't swap glasses much among
themselves during the course of a particular meeting, the polarized glasses
might not be much of a problem for a stereo club with monthly meetings.
