I went and checked my virtual 3dictionary at
http://www.dictionary.com/ and found that, "Sync"
is indeed correct. Failing Internet access, try a
good (meaning big and recent) traditional dictionary.

Well both. The English language (and dictionaries) is a
reflection of American culture. As to it being attributed
to laziness, not necessarily. It is because English is a
living language, evolving and open to the influence of
other cultures. As for laziness, I'd rather call it
efficiency. :-)

How is the original meaning of the word lost? As long as
the word is used in the proper context, there is no problem.
Abbreviations are perfectly acceptable and encouraged.
