I agree.  Partially, it's a different perspective of the same 
thing.  Sometimes, the "maker/user" of the technology is
using it as a "tool", while the targets of the promotion
see it as a "gimmick".  :-)

I'm sure that ABC throwing things into the camera when they
did their week of 3D were exercising their promotional
technology, while viewers might have seen it as a gimmick.

Although it could and hopefully *is* used as a serious
promotinal tool, I think my original addition to the list
that was presented is still valid -- in that the second
biggest use is as a promotional gimmick (or tool).  Meaning 
"number of participants" rather than "number of advertisers".

Number three probably is as an entertainment device (again
by number of participants) with all the 3D IMAX's,  various
other entertainment operations (like ones in Vegas), 
Disney World, etc.

Number one probably is "toy production".  I'd imagine
that although they may not be in their "heyday", Viewmaster
probably still has significant sales and/or usage of existing
installed base.  At least year in year out.
