My two cents,

I have a coupple of German 3D art-books that use the same system as the
Japanese 3D museum book : The incorporated viewer-cover (two lenses and a
hole for your nose).
Most of my 3D-neophyte friends seem to be most confortable  with this system.
(Freeviewing takes considerable effort if you're not familiar with it and
the lorgnette requires some exercise on how to hold it.)
