RE: The Searcher Lefty wants to know if there was ever the idea he
described of a swinging shift device to place still camera in two
positions the stereo difference apart?
Yes, there WAS a nifty device I have dug out of my drawer to try on
my digital camera. The company that made it also made a viewer to
hold to 2x2 35mm slides and this shift device was to take them with
your mono camera.
The device (that may be found in swap meets etc.) is the RADEX Stereo
Parallel...it gets its name from being a paralleogram shifting
platform that is screwed to a tripod and the top half shift up and
over with parallelogram arms to the new postition. I consider it
one of the nice gadgets as while fixed distance, is quicker that an
shift bar which is needed for two exposures to minimize movement of
clouds, shadows etc.
It was made by the long defunct: Radex Stereo Co.

It is small and handy, even if the tripod you need isn't..BobH
