In the 1950's Dr. David Donaldson, an ophthalmologist at MIIT designed a
stereo camera for retinal photography. Along with this was a special Donaldson
viewer. I have never seen one, but the object was to quickly view a series of
retinal stereos mounted on a light table. By rapidly viewing and comparing one
against the other, the clinician was able to follow the progress of retinal
disease. The mounts that he used were seven sprocket and were too closely
spaced for our use, so I assume his viewer correected for this. So if you are
ever offered a Donaldson viewer you will know what it is. I have made
thousands of these mounts but have never seen the viewer.
