P3D C3D (was:Ban everything not specifically 3D?)

I've been considering over the past few days whether to start
a sub list to join T3D (the technical 3d list which frequently
contains relatively high powered discussions of optics and neural
aspects of true3d) and S3D (for selling things). Tentatively this
might be C3D (for discussions related to true3d in the computer realm).
Pros: Since a number of people here are more photography than computer
oriented, it would tolerate a greater level of computer related discussion
than is comfortable in photo-3d (ie, disk storage issues would be ok
if not carried to the extreme). Thus the computer oriented could help
the photography oriented who are interested in coming up to speed on
current technology (and vice versa).
Although there are computer related
photography mailing lists/newsgroups, C3D would attempt to keep the
signal to noise ratio high(er). Also, since photography/computer related
discussions are not likely to go away as technology progresses, this
topic will likely keep recurring in Photo-3d as the membership
cycles. Lastly of course, people not wanting to see computer issues
discussed could avoid those topics (similar to those not wanting to
see sell items can avoid the s3d list). It is also possible that
the charter could open up additional topics not currently encouraged
in photo-3d such as SIRDS and (possibly?) holography. Since the lists
are pretty well automated at the moment (except for people who change
ISPs and the few who won't read the instructions), it would not
significantly increase the work/machine load (from my standpoint).
Cons: There is the prospect of excessive "Balkanization" of the photo-3d
lists where everyone is off in their own niche and the amount of
communication/information being exchanged is degraded. If C3D
grows significantly, a new moderator may be necessary. There may
be a problem trying to keep true3d discussions in C3D and minimize
the 3d modellers from taking over the place because of the confusion
related to "3D" as noted here in the past (*that* aspect would require
a firm moderation hand!).
Neutral: as now, membership in all lists would be available on
an ack/digest optional basis, subscriptions could be made to any/all lists,
and the upkeep of the mailing list(s) will be provided free and
sponsored by Rocky Mountain College and me.
===========================================
I intensely dislike meta-discussions, so I'd like to throw this open
for a couple of days, and then return to photo-3d traditional topics.
Alternately, you could drop me e-mail direct. Mostly I'd just like to
get a feel as to how many people would be interested in subscribing to
determine if it's worthwhile to invest the resources in creating the
list. Assuming that a list *is* created, can anyone think of a better
name than C3D (Computer 3D?) which might be more representative?
Ideally it should be x3D to go with P3D, T3D, and S3D. (Maybe
D3D for *digital* 3d)?
