P3D Re: C3D (was:Ban everything not specifically 3D?)

I advocate allowing some discussion of digital/computer-aided 3D topics on
the main photo-3d list, and not creating a separate list for this. We've
had a number of discussions in the past about JPS format, about putting 3D
on Web pages, about scanning stereo images, etc., and none of these have
overwhelmed or, as far as I can tell, adversely affected the list. Saying
we're not going to discuss digital stereo imagery here is like saying we're
not going to discuss View-Master format, or we're not going to discuss
Holmes-type stereocards. I think there's a synergy across the different
media that can be used for stereo imagery, and that these topics can be
discussed in relation to each other.
However, that doesn't mean we should host endless discussions of Mac vs. PC
debates, disk drive partitioning tutorials, etc. These topics will come up
from time to time, but I think we should address them and try to put them
to bed fairly quickly.
In other words, I guess I'm proposing the laissez-faire approach ... I
think most or all of us have a genuine interest in stereoscopic imagery,
and will inevitably return to that subject. That's why we're here.
