P3D Re: List fragmentation
This is my first posting on the subject--maybe my only one (I hope).
When T-3D started, I told myself I'd subscribe to both lists (as I
had for Sell-3D). I did not, in fact, subscribe to T-3d, and frankly
I haven't regretted being left out, despite the interest I felt for
the technical topics that had become bothersome to some on the main
list, and that had precipitated the generation of the new list.
I've become oblivious to the existence of the issues being discussed
there, if indeed that list is thriving.
So far as I can tell there has been no pollution of the original
list with technical topics--at least I haven't seen any complaints on
P3D that some thread should be moved to the technical list. If that
precedent is an indication of what would happen with a computer 3D
list, then I think the new list SHOULD be formed. I believe I would
subscribe to both.
>From a librarian's viewpoint, this whole meta-discussion is precisely
the same as the discussion at the time of splitting of science
journals. Someone has called it the "twigging" of science--splitting
off into sub-specialties. That's three dimensional, itself!
I say, let the new list begin. If it lives, it was worth it. If it
dies, .......
