Actually, it's lifetime of the (last surviving) author *plus 50 years*
in the case where the author is an individual or individuals.  In the
case of a "work made for hire" (e.g. where the actual copyright holder
is the corporation employing you to create the work, which applies to a
lot of us software types) the duration of copyright is 75 years from
creation.
