In a message dated 98-05-19 23:28:45 EDT, you write:

differs in that it has variable intensity. I dom't know, since there is no
manual, a
factor that reduced the price :-)
Does anyone have experience with a 285?"
I have experience with both the Vivitar 283 and the 285. As far as I am
aware, there are two differences: (1) the 283 has three automatic exposure
ranges and the 285 has four, and (2) the 285 has a user-adjustable fresnel
lens that can throw the light further for telephoto, normal for 50 mm, and
wider for wide angle lenses, whereas the 283 cannot be adjusted in this
manner. I presently use the 285, but I'm embarasses to admit I frequently
forget to make the proper focal length adjustment. Doesn't seem to matter
much, though. Jim Norman
Pls email replies to this OT query.
