I was in Aptos, CA, (near Santa Cruz) this holiday weekend.
During our volleyball game a 5th grader came up to me as I
was snapping a photo of my friends and said, "Oh, you have
one of those cameras!" I asked if he knew what it was and
he gave me a rather accurate description of the functioning
of my Reailst. He ended up asking me *exactly* how the film
advanced to keep from exposing the same portion of film twice.
I was very impressed by the kid (he seemed awfully small for
5th grade--I remember being the smallest in my class and I was
bigger than this kid). Later when someone asked what time it
was he replied in military time and began to talk about the
various types of aircraft flying overhead. I knew that he had
probably had an unusual childhood--certainly much different
from my own.
Anyway, someone else spotted me with my Realist and he was not
even a teenager! The next generation is starting already.
