RE: Bob Wier (only needs a 'd'?) Ha Ha! (That is how I remember not
to spell it like a dam!) in discussing Vivitar 285 etc. muses on why
old flashgun like Honeywell (or predecessor Heiland or Honeywell
Heiland) had a standard 115v outlet socket! Can be dangerous for the
accessory if it get plugged into a wall socket with AC.
My guess is that in early days of flashguns with bulbs (foil or
shredded foil chemical bulbs), there were not ready available
accessories, and almost every photographer had photoflood reflectors
for #1 or #2 screw base photofloods. With a #11 or #22 flashbulb,
also medium screw base, they could be put in the photo reflector(s)
and fired with its plug in the Honeywell socket(s). Also a household
extention cord could be used to gain more distance for reflector
placement. There were of course, adapters for bayonet flash bulbs to
medium screw base so they too could be put in the reflector. BobH
