Perhaps a simpler measure that's easier to understand is one of
explicitness. XXX can be considered as a measure of how graphic the
depiction of sexual acts are, not the level of art or social mores or
values displayed, although they are often linked. If it has erect
penises and open labia with shots into the vagina, it's XXX. If the
penis is hidden or at least flaccid and the woman's legs are pretty much
closed, then there's chance it isn't XXX, just Adult or "erotica." Of
course, you could also say that "if a person's sexual parts are in
obvious and graphic sexual excitetation" then it's XXX.

When you use terms like denigrating sexuality, then some folks get lost
in the valuative shuffle. Pornography and XXX are not always the same
thing -- given different community and indivdual standards (pornography
is simply a measure of what is offensive or excessive by community
standards, usually in terms of sexual depiction).

For many folks the Risque Photo stuff sold at Ron's site at
http://www.studio3d.com/ would not be pornographic but in some
jurisdictions they would be, although Ron protects himself by having the
views censored in his public section. For more folks the anaglyphs at
http://www.3dPornPics.com are pornography but to others they are not --
albeit the "nasty kink" section and the "gay sex" sections certainly
stretch the limit for even the most liberal. I personally don't know
anyone for whom kiddie porn or snuff or necrophilia photos are not
offensive -- and I really don't want to know anyone who likes that
stuff.

As far as 3D photography goes, it seems that the adult marketplace is
where so much of the technology gets maintained or innovations are used
first. Look at the number of 3D VCDs available, the adult titles win
hands down -- especially the triple x stuff. Of course, I can't get any
of that in my neck of the woods because of local censorship laws (they
"spray" any pubic hair or sexual organ other than breasts and some
distributors will even spray nipples).

Ooohhh. My first post to the list. :-)
