P3D Catching up and cable release question

I have been away for a couple days and have spent the evening catching
up--offline--on the 173 messages in my mailbox (slow few days--most
everyone must be on summer holiday!)  Several replies now sit in my
outbox and will be transmitted at once--please forgive the flurry of
messages that follow.

I have had trouble with my cable release not "staying put" in my
Realist--it keeps jumping out.  It happened twice over a couple
days, and only once was I fortunate enough to notice it right away
--meaning I spent the last few days without one and now need to find
a replacement :( .  I do a lot of walking up and down moutain trails
with my stereo cameras and would prefer to leave the cable release
attached to one while doing so.  Is the tendency for the release to
jump out related to the tapered/non-tapered mismatch of the parts, or
is it something else?  Is it "curable?"
