Well, yes, there is. Macro (hypo) stereo photos are amazing. [Flame
shields on.] Hyperstereos are more of a curiosity.

I sure longed for macro stereo capability yesterday on a mountain
trail. As I sat about 15 minutes waiting for my wife (who has taken
over my SLR as I've become almost 100% stereo-minded in my photos),
I had an "encounter" with a small lizard-like creature. After
freezing motionless for quite some time waiting for me to "go
away" and hoping I didn't spot it, it tried to scare me off by
turning to face me, arching its back, puffing itself up, and
staring me down. Even though it was quite alive and moved from
time to time, there was plenty of opportunity to take stereo pairs
with a single SLR and macro lens. All I lacked was the equipment
(though in this case the lens itself would not have helped as my
wife was monopolizing the camera body).
