My business partner makes pretty nice labels with "MyLabels" from

He says it's the best of the cheap labeling programs, and he (almost) never
lies to me. It's for Windows, but they list a tech support number for Mac
software, so maybe they have a version for the Mac too. You should be able
to find it at finer stores and computer shows everywhere, for under $20.
They have a "deluxe" version too.

I use Avery labels on my slides, when I'm disciplined enough to label
things (which is, regretably, not all the time). I have a number of 10-15
year old slides with Avery labels.   I can't notice any affect to the
emulsion, even where the labels are under glass.
