Man, I thought I did some crazy mounting! This whole thread demonstrates
how much effort us stereo nuts will put out to get a little 3-D! You must
really love those reels!

Here is an alternative, which I've always wanted to try but haven't found
the time for: Realist made a titling accessory, which was a small stage
with a close-up lens. This would attach to the Realist lens. The idea was
to insert a title card into the stage, and shoot a title onto the "wasted"
frame on the head of the roll. Actually a pretty useless device, but a nice
collector's item today.

Now, it would take a little fiddling, but one could make a stereo slide
duping attachment to fit a Viewmaster camera. You would need two closeup
lenses of appropriate diopter, and a stage that would center the stereo
pair over the VM lenses. If you didn't center the slides correctly, you
would change the built-in stereo window, so this would probably be easier
with 2x2x2, rather than combined mounts. The other tricky part would be to
get the focus distance right. Correct exposure would require some testing,
but once all the set up work was done, duping to the VM format would be
pretty straight forward. Then, you could run the roll through your punch
and mount the reels easily. It's true making the duping stage would be some
work, but it would be one time, rather than spending hours to mount each
reel for the rest of your life. A device like this would be especially
useful for anyone who wanted to make short-run commercial reels, or to make
identical reels for something like a Christmas card.

Don't forget the SCSC VM competition next year! I'd like to see some of
these mounting hacks projected!

Tony
