Wow, that must have been quite a load for the 6500 feet or so of elevation
gain! I'm planning a 7 day backpack trip out there at the end of September
and will be bringing along my twin Nikon 2000's -- 24mm, 35mm lenses, a light
wt. tripod, a slide bar and 55 macro lens along with a Realist Ektar (now
being converted to 7p). Did you find many oppurtunities to use for the 50 mm
lenses or telephoto zoom that you brought?

Would both of the cameras eventually fire? Unless you've got a moving object
(or say moving water, blowing leaves) in the picture the sync problem
shouldn't have precluded good stereo images from being made unless you are
using a flash. My Nikons have an electronic shutter release, but I too have
been having trouble with staggered firings (perhaps because of the
autowinders?). I sent them in to be synced up recenently, but it did not
help, so I'm sending them back after a hefty bill for syncing (supposedly),
cleaning and adjusting the shutter speeds to match. I watched them test the
shutter sync with a flash and can tell you how to test for that.

I normally use a Realist (another dedicated stereo camera is fine too) for
pictures with people in the foreground. The twin-rigs will miniaturize people
(with the wide lenses that I ordinarily use and the inter-ocular spacing --
horizontally mounted) and the fill-in flash is just about essential for
photgraphing people outdoors on sunny days as well as indoors, IMO.
Thanks for the report, I'd be interested to hear anything about the trip you'd
care to divulge (via private e-mail) since I"ll be following in your
footsteps soon.
Thanks,
