3 bath E-6 kits (I know of Tetenal and Jobo, which is made by Fuji) I
have used here (in Europe) produce excellent results.
It takes more than <I figure maybe a
changing bag, and tank and some chemistry, I could probably do it>,
though.
Constant agitation and temperature are -absolutely- necessary if you
want repeatable and comparable results.
Even if there was something like a "variable temperature" kit, I'd have
serious doubt with its quality and how constant it can be.
Typically, to process your own E-6 you'd need a small rotation machine
(eg. JOBO).
Especially FD (first developer) requires temperature accuracy of +/-
0.3ƒC and very constant rotation and processing time.
You can't achieve that with a b&w "shaker" - tank.
For best results you use the chemicals only once (that's the only way I
ever did it and the only one I would recommend),
except for BX (bleach-fixer) that can be used at least twice (and is btw
also by far the most expensive component).
The quality, as I said is excellent, it is more constant than most Pro-
Labs (when you have a lot of turnover).
Density and even colour correction is at your hands, plus the speed and
flexibility such a machine gives you.
You can also do b&w and even Ilfocrome in it.
Downside is, you must buy such a thing, install it and always use up the
chemicals within a couple of weeks in order to work economical.
Typically a 35mm film takes 180 ml of solution.
The chemicals come in quantities for 5 or 15 liters.
Hope I was able to help you,
Peter
