P3D Purpose of metallic screens in 2-D?

Gabriel Jacob wants to know about non-3D use of metallic screens...
Everyone's heard of movies on "the big silver screen", although it's rare to
find one in a movie house today, though they're much brighter than
conventional screens. The drawback is that they are directional, so that
they are brighter for people in the center of the theatre, but the
brightness falls off markedly toward the sides. This is not a problem with
white screens, which reflect more evenly.
One way silver screen makers try to avoid the problem is by adding vertical
ribs ("lenticular" silver)... To my knowledge only DaLite still makes a
lenticular silver surface- but due to a change in the manufacturing dies,
their widest screen can only be 70" (by any height!)... It used to be the
other way around, but the manufacturing process was too difficult.
At the NSA convention I plan to showcase a new screen material called
"Silver Lining"... It is very lightweight and can be folded. At present the
maximum height is 5' x any width (I will have a 5 x 7.5) but we are working
on larger sizes.
