P3D This and That

Bill -
Hi neighbor! Thanks for the P3D encouragement (and caveat) on
wheat-pasting stereocards. You might have seen my skeptical take on
paste early in the discussion, but some reading I have done and my
experience with wet media in other applications has given me the urge
to tread into this messy question - though I won't be sending my
sticky experiments off on circuits any time soon. The ubiquitous
Time/Life photography books even describe a wet-mounting method which
calls for wetting the *print* first! The tendency for this method to
curve the mounting material is noted, with advice for counteracting
it. This made me speculate that the curving of stereocards in the
19th century may have been a side-effect that was later determined to
be "desirable" - for reasons of enhanced apparent depth, as I have
often heard - or perhaps to make the cards stack better on a table
without tipping over, one of my unsupported theories. ;-) I still
have stereocard topics that I would like to see aired on P3D, but
don't want to do too much all at first. After NSA I hope the general
thread will resume.
Also I received my SSA entries back in good condition. Thanks for
your nice note appended to the letter, saying you enjoyed my view
"Trefoil Knot". I truly enjoyed the whole experience, and look
forward to submitting to future exhibitions. I don't feel bad about
being "skunked" on this one at all (Andrea Blair's term - is that
standard?), I understand that I was in some very good company. My
focus now is on having worthwhile views ready for ISU and APEC. Since
I don't make my own prints, getting good, quick, affordable service is
still a bit of a bother. I just sent my first three rolls to Janet at
Grand Photo and I have my fingers crossed.
Have a wonderful NSA, Bill! Do write when you get back and share your
experiences, so I can vicariously enjoy them.
Bruce.
