People live in Philly for many years without going to see the Liberty
Bell, D.C. without taking advantage of the Smithsonian, Arizona
without going to the Grand Canyon, etc.<<<
This is so true. We were fortunate enough to have out of town visitors
for a week. My husband and I played tour guide and took them to just
about everything we could think of. With two whole days in Washington,
DC we covered the Capitol (couldn't go in because of respects being paid
to the two cops shot - what a line - but walked around outside,
Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, several war memorials, Jefferson
Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery (changing of the guard at the Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier, plus a special tribute from the family of the
soldier recently identified and removed), Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
and Natural History Museum, MCI Center (with great interactive Discovery
Channel store, too). A helicopter even landed by the reflecting pool by
the Washington Monument! Then we did a day down Skyline Drive and nearby
attractions like Luray Caverns and one of the many Civil War battlefield
museums. Whew!!! Were we tired! But it did make us realize how long it
had been since we had toured our own back yard. We have decided to go
back more often and enjoy the treasures nearby. Now, if only all of my
stereo shots come out...
