Dear Bill, et.al.,
There are several systems using a single objective microscope that I would
recommend at these low powers. Most are based on principles put forward by
Schulman, notably Edge Scientific, and Zeiss, where the subject is
illuminated by two slightly offset light paths, from which you get left and
right stereo views. Another is an invention I came up with. You can see how
