I totally disagree with Steve Dudley's opinion. Obviously, he expects that
people invest a lot of time and money and share everything below cost. Dr.
T., for example, tracks down 3D-stuff (mostly Realist :-)) and does a
wonderful job bringing the cameras and viewers back to life. And all that
for an incredibly low price. The camera would cost you at least twice as
much if you add the cost of gas (to drive to camera shows, garage sales
etc.) and the services of a "professional" camera repairman. If you ever
repaired any cameras (I did!), you know how much time it takes to
disassemble, clean, adjust and re-assemble a camera.
The same thing is true with information. Everybody expects it to be free.
Of course there are many "free" things out there, but they tend to be
un-organized. I, for example, receive numerous phone-calls a day and
people receive the information for free. Sometimes, I even make
photocopies of magazine articles or book pages - and I can be happy if
people refund the postage ... But if the same people have a computer
problem, they are happy to call a 900-number at $2 per minute or pay a
one-time fee of $20. So where's the difference?
Steve Dudley assumes that everybody who charges ANY money for services of
information is a disgusting individual. My opinion: 100% pure bullsh**!
It's only fair to ask for a contribution towards your services - at least
to cover the expenses. Remember: "income" is not "profit".
