Regarding Mr. Dudley's post:

I believe the field of 3D has room for (and can benefit from) both volunteer
work and for-profit work. The volunteer work helps to "spread the word", and
to get people involved. The commercial side helps to make products available,
in particular to make them available in quantity and at an affordable price.
I believe it is in the best interest of 3D if the commercial and non-commercial
participants in 3D each recognize the benefit of both approaches, and each
not waste effort condemning the other.

I'm not aware of any rule that people should try to restrict their sources
of income to things that they're *not* interested in. If a person can do
something they like and make money at it too, I don't see a problem with that.
In fact, I think it would be great if the money-making potential of 3D were
greatly increased, to the extent that it would attract manufacturers and
retailers - I don't think that having high-quality new 3D cameras in stock
and selling well at all the local camera stores would hurt the field of 3D.

If discussion of the business aspects of 3D on P3D could help to revive the
3D business, then I'm in favor of it.
