I'd say a pair or more of stalks would be the way to go. You could vary your
base line for the best stereo acuity/least retinal conflicts, as well as
aligning your eyes to take full advantage of the surrounding landscape;
trees and grasses, or limbs and logs.

I have done some work with auto stereoscopic displays having a third,
vertical, input. It's very effective for up/down head motion parallax. The
difference is similar to the difference you find between 3D and holography.
