As your subject gets closer to the camera
there will be less common image in the L&R
halves. By the time you are a foot or two
away there will be no common image at all
(the flower will be in one but not the other
side).
Joel Alpers used to sell a Ukraine made
beamsplitter similar to the Pentax. But
supposedly it was easily modify-able to
allow the mirror angles to be adjusted.
This would let you get stereo closeups
but you would have the keystone distortion
that you get from toeing in cameras.
Since you are willing to shoot 1/2 frame
stereos anyways, you might want to sell
the Pentax Stereo Adapter and buy a Tech-
Nimslo with close up lenses. It is switchable
between 4 lens (for lenticular prints) or
can use the two outer or two inner lenses
for closeups with CU lenses. Unlike the
PSA photos, the Nimslo ones are psuedo-stereo
on the film strip so they will have to be
cut and mounted.
But I think your PSA with viewer would
sell for enough to buy the Tech-Nimslo.
