That's a very interesting idea!!!  I am familiar with the rule of thirds
and appreciate what it produces but never thought to extend it to 3 
dimensions.  I always imagined the rule applied without the 3rd dimension.

Other rules that also apply for 2d and 3d:  Do not split your picture with
horizon or sea level, have paths (real or visual) leading into the picture
(not out of it), have people looking into the picture, not out, watch your
borders! (avoid bright objects at the edge of the picture).
