I subscribe in "digest" mode, so I aplolgise if this has already been brought
up.
In a message dated 98-09-12 20:36:59 EDT, Jay Schumacher writes, in part:
<
"I need the considerable collective brain power of this list brought to
bear on a difficulty that I'm having.
... the Realist would NOT trigger the flash. My Kodak
Stereo and OM-2 will both trigger this Toshiba flash. If I connect my
OM flash to the Realist it, too, will fire. The only combination that
*won't* work is the one for which I specifically bought the flash
(Realist + Toshiba). This rules out problems with the camera and PC
cord which were my first two guesses. ...
I hope I explained this clearly enough.
Please put on your thinking caps, 'cuz MY BRAIN HURTS"
This sounds familiar enough. I agree the problem is not a fault in the cord.
Try reversing the polarity. I'm not enough of a repair or technically
oriented person to tell you why this happens, or how the trigger contacts are
wired in different cameras, but I've seen this before. In the old days, when
most flashes used H (household) type connectors, it was easy to fix: just
unplug the cord and reverse it in its socket. With modern cords and
proprietary connectors it may not be so easy. I have seen, just once, a short
PC to PC extension that deliberately reversed the wires to correct for this,
but I can't remember who made it.
I hope this helps.
Good luck,
M
