P3D Spiderman? The Next 3D Attraction?

While we are occupied with setting correct shutterspeeds, DOF,
estimating the nearlimit and whatever it takes to get a proper
stereoscopic image, there is other 3D delights ahead.....
Adventure of Spiderman...leaves the concept of any 3D movie.
Universal Studios new theme park; "Islands of Adventure" will be ready
to open early in 1999. Its top attraction is; yes, a new 3D adventure.
Where Terminator 2 in 3D left(with integrating live actors blended into
the action, on, or behind the screen itself), this is the time for the
public to move. In fact, not just moving, but travelling too. Its said
to be the first ever attraction that let the public experience realistic
3D scenes, seen from their moving point of view. Dome style environment
will allow 180 degree field of view. Besides playing with spatial sound,
vision and motion, gravity is also at play(or the lack of it!). Gravity
is a strong indicator which often counteracts other illusory
experiences. Now, if motion and gravity instead is used as part of the
illusion, it could leave the public with no fixed sensory information.
In this way, the most impressive illusions could be created with the
audience in time/space/motion, because its real feedback will be the
fuel to fool the senses.
Before this new attraction is ready, similar attempts shows that the use
of stereoscopic environment as film expanded with integrated motion,
gravity and sound input will create a far more realistic impact.
The question is; How will the 3D stereoscopic impression be correctly
directed to a travelling audience from a continuos variable angle of
view and with stereoscopic projections taking place in (most) all
directions?
Even as the first IMAX Solido 3D film system went public, it caused
disbelief among some experienced 3d people as reports told that there
was no "artefact" as a stereo window. Still there is perhaps no more
than 3(?) IMAX Solido Cinema around the world to get that kind of
experience.
In the meantime, we will patiently look forward to the first p3d list
members own reports from the "expanded cinema attraction"
