P3D Re: Need for a Separate Sell-3D?

Well, we have heard from a few buyers that they like the separate
Sell-3D, but only one non-buyer and one seller has responded. I guess
that perhaps my poor communication skills hasnít brought forth the
discussion that I had hoped for. My apologies.

What I was really wondering is, does having a separate Sell-3D List
accomplish its original intention of reducing unwanted traffic on the
Photo-3D List (as I recall, that was the reason the Sell-3D List was
first started), and does having for-sale postings separate from the
other types of postings best serve the needs of _all_ 3D subscribers?

Supposedly, all announcements of items for sale would be directed to the
Sell-3D List and all discussion topics would be directed to one of the
other 3D Lists. The moderators have been doing a good job of keeping any
discussions off Sell-3D, but there has been a lot of postings on the
Photo-3D List concerning items or services for sale. There does seem to
be some agreement from Photo-3D List members that some of these types of
postings are acceptable, but there are no rules as to how much is too
much.

Here are some examples of postings that we have seen recently:

Item seen for sale on a non-3D List - details posted.
3D books found on Amazon.com or other such places.
3D equipment found for sale at various sites on the web.
3D services (camera repairs, duplicating, ..etc.) names, addresses, and
sometimes prices posted.
3D items for rent.
Descriptions and prices of items that other List members are selling.
Discussions about items that are for sale.
People asking where can I find, or where can I buy.

Are all of these types of postings acceptable on Photo-3D? Even when the
original poster may not have personally profited from the posting, many
of these sure sounded like ads to me.

It has been suggested that some people have all of the stereo related
items that want, and do not want to see any ads on Photo-3D. But is
there anyone who does not consume any materials while shooting and
viewing 3D? The person who does not want another camera may very well be
interested in half price stereo mounts that another member has for sale.
Or, if there is a recent discussion on slide bars, and the non-Sell-3D
reader thinks that they would like to try that, is it just their
misfortune that they are unaware that someone has just posted several
slide bars for sale on the Sell-3D List? I think most sellers would like
to have the largest number of interested parties see what they have
available, especially those who are not frequent buyers. There may be
many interested persons who do not subscribe to Sell-3D.

>From the other side, I have seen on several occasions a discuss start up
on Sell-3D that was asked to move to Photo-3D, which resulted in the end
of the discussion. Someone has an item for sale, someone else says that
they are unfamiliar with this item could the seller please give more
information, the seller responds, someone else says that they have used
this item and would like to offer some comments. As a potential buyer,
this is where I would like to hear the discussion, not in the digest
mode on another List.

Well, this posting is getting too long, but I just wanted to find out if
the List members agreed that having a separate Sell-3D List is best for
the 3D community as a whole, and if so, what are the specific rules as
to what can and should be posted on the different 3D Lists, or should we
reevaluate the necessity of having a separate Sell-3D.

Thanks, Tom Martin
