>>>>It seems to me as if there are a lot of people don't exactly like
the way stereo clubs are set up right now, and mainly relating to the
Competitions.<<<<
I don't think this is exactly accurate. A club needs a variety of
activities to offer to its members to succeed. Competitions are only a
small part of the whole picture. Other activities usually include
programs, workshops and field trips. You will get a core group of people
who enjoy everything (like me) and the rest of the group likes various
combinations. Some don't like competitions, some don't like field trips,
etc. If a club is not doing well, the blame should not be put solely on
competitions. Instead, look at the entire agenda and get membership
feedback to identify key issues.
>>>>I am not suggesting that clubs get rid of them, but perhaps some of
the clubs should look into the possibility that the goings on at the
clubs could be different occasionally. It may help the clubs grow
rather than fade away.<<<<
Our stereo club has a "Show-n-Tell" portion of the meeting where members
bring in all kinds of stuff. Last month we were treated with several
View-Master reels of an autopsy of the human brain, which used real live
dead people! I found this fascinating, although some of my comrades were
a little less than enthusiastic about the subject matter. What made it
even more interesting was that we had a visitor (new member) that was
(is) a neuroanalyst (? - something like that) and gave us a play-by-play
commentary on what was going on in the shots. This is the fun portion of
the evening where comments, questions and discussion are welcome.
