>>>>Gary, I didn't mean to imply that Postcard photography was boring.
Where I was coming from was that I see a lot of images that look like
the same shot of the same rock in the dessert that all of the members
seem to have gone to.<<<<

Please consider the feelings of the photographers when viewing similar
images. To each of them, the image *is* unique (unless they deliberately
set out to make famous look-alikes). They may not know how popular a
particular site or view may be. The key to standing out is looking for
ways to shoot *common* sites (Golden Gate Bridge, Eiffle (sp?) Tower,
Statue of Liberty, etc. a little different from what is normally seen IF
you know what is considered *common*. But even if it is the same old
view, is it a *nice* view? Is it presented well? Technically correct?
Aesthetically pleasing? Worthy of recognition? Who cares if it's been
"done before"? This person is doing it *now*. Another obstacle is when a
club does a field trip or workshop, especially one that ties in with an
upcoming competition, there will be many similar images. The famous "PSA
3 Glass Objects" is a prime example. At one time, you couldn't get away
without seeing half a dozen (or more) in one exhibition.
