P3D Competitions

I enjoy participating in the Ohio slide competitions. A contestants
expressed level of scoring dismay is proportionate to the seating
distance of the nearest judge. :-) I believe the feelings of being
wronged by the judges intensifies if the image has great emotional value
to the photographer, especially if the image includes friends and loved
ones. I recall an image unfavorably critiqued because the flash was too
close to the back of somebody's head, drawing attention to the shining
scalp. Or the image of a young girl relaxing in a lying position was
critiqued for showing too much stretch, making her legs appear longer
than they should be etc. I happened to agree with the judges however the
contestant may interpret the comments as insults. The new qualification
for judges should include a minimum of 30 days community volunteer
service, at least an associate degree in psychology.......make that
psychiatry ( to administor medications etc.) Family counseling
experience or equivalent........Seriously I recommend a brief "
disclaimer" prior to all competitions. " The competitions are designed
to share and learn......judges opinions may not be the opinion of the
group majority and critiques should be taken for constructive
value.....bla,bla,bla...uhmm....bla, bla"....you get the idea.
