P3D Exhibiting Stereo Prints

Jeremy Illingworth asked what is the best method to display stereo
prints.
The Best method is to have a whole bunch of stereoscopes (at least one
for every 5 stereographs), I THINK)
Joking aside, the method that we use for the SSA International Stereo
Card Exhibition and which I used for exhibiting my stereo prints in Japan
last year, is to use 24x36 poster frames.
1. Put the prints in individual, clear plastic holders (such as those
sold by Russell Norton) Put a little piece of tape on
both bottom corners of the stereo card holders to keep the cards in
place.
2. Make cut lines for each stereograph and stick them to the backs of the
stereo card holders so the cut lines appear
underneath.
3. Decide how many prints you want to use for each frame. 20 will fit,
with room for a title bar at the top and cut lines
under each stereograph, but 16 look better (I THINK) and there can
be more separation between the stereo cards.
4.. Put 2 or 3 strips of double stick tape on the back of each stereo
card holder.
5. Place the cards on the backing sheet in the poster frame. With the
double stick tape on them they will be hard to
move, so plan first.
6. Install the front and the frames on the backing sheet. Carefully tape
all four corners with some good quality clear
tape. This will prevent the frames from coming apart and makes the
whole thing quite sturdy. I took 4 poster
frames of stereo cards from Columbus, GA to Richmond VA, for the NSA
Convention, and brought them back with
no problems.
7. Attach a lorgnette viewer to each poster frame with a ribbon so the
cards can be viewed. I suggest the better type
lorgnette, with the nose piece.
This method was used at the 1995 Atlanta NSA Convention, Three SSA
International Stereo Card Exhibitions, 2 Stereo Card Exhibitions at
Columbus State University and my stereo card Exhibition in Kiryu Japan.
Of course, large permanent type frames would be better, but also a lot
more expensive.
