P3D Re: Lost in Space in 3D

>>>I went to the website, too, and it sounds like a snake oil sales job to
me.
What they are claiming in their glib and informationless blurb is
technically impossible at this stage -- that they have a computer program
than can examine images, determine spacial relationships, and generate
stereo pairs "on the fly" at 30 frames per second. Despite the testimony of
the impressed eyewitness, it sounds very much as though they are pulling
the same stunt, or some slight variation of it, as the other theater in New
England (I think it was) where a video image was split and projected
vertically off-set through two polarized projectors.

Having seen the web site I would agree with the first statement. However as
the "impressed witness" I would like to point out that the effects
definitely went beyond just floating a 2D movie in a particular plane in
space. Individual objects in the scenes had depth beyond the illusion
created by normal 2D film. Further there were times when the effect was
less noticeable leading me to infer that the process is not perfect. As an
aside: To get 3D requires horizontal separation not vertical.

Mark
